JOB TITLE – AU SENIOR BOOKKEEPER
Bring clarity to every number. We’re looking for an experienced, detail-driven Senior Bookkeeper who can keep payroll, reporting, reconciliations, and compliance running accurately and on time. If you enjoy creating order, solving problems, and giving leaders confidence in the numbers, you’ll fit right in.
Work Setup: Hybrid during Probationary Period
Role Overview
As our Senior Bookkeeper, you’ll administer the timely, accurate, and relevant processing and recording of payroll and bookkeeping while supporting the Director across other accounting activities. You’ll manage monthly reconciliations and reporting, prepare statutory lodgements, support audits and budgets, and maintain reliable records and workflows across a varied client portfolio.
Decision Making
Decision-making authority and responsibilities are limited to the scope of the role, with payment approvals and other restricted actions completed internally by authorized personnel.
Key Responsibilities
· Own the Ledgers: Complete monthly bookkeeping and reconcile MYOB, Xero, QuickBooks, and similar platforms through to the balance sheet, including monthly journals.
· Keep Payments Moving: Prepare and process accounts for payment, with authorized personnel completing bank uploads and client notifications.
· Run Payroll Accurately: Process payroll, PAYG, superannuation, and leave accruals, including holiday, personal, and long-service leave reconciliations.
· Stay Compliant: Prepare and lodge IAS and BAS statements with the Australian Taxation Office and complete workers’ compensation forms for association staff.
· Deliver Clear Reporting: Prepare monthly balance sheets and profit and loss statements, investigate variances, and issue reports by agreed deadlines ahead of board meetings.
· Plan Ahead: Prepare annual budgets, coordinate audit requirements, and liaise with appointed auditors.
· Maintain Key Records: Track annual insurance renewals in Asana and maintain client ACNC records, including updates following Annual General Meetings.
· Capture Source Data: Download childcare software reports and place them in the designated shared folder for bookkeeping and reporting.
· Keep Work Visible: Maintain accurate project records in Asana, adding actionable items, due dates, status updates, and other information needed for effective monitoring.
· Support the Director: Take direction, deliver requests promptly, provide regular job-status updates, and copy the Director on client correspondence where required to maintain a seamless service.
· Protect Reliable Setups: Action internal and client requests in line with established setup requirements, retaining control of systems such as Tanda and Deputy to support legislative and client commitments.
· Build Team Capability: Train new and existing staff as required.
· Keep Administration Current: Complete timesheets and update MYOB after each job to support accurate client invoicing.
· Pitch In Where Needed: Perform other duties as required.
Skills & Experience
· At least 3 years’ experience as an AU Bookkeeper in a similarly busy environment.
· Tertiary qualifications in accounting, business administration, finance, or a related discipline.
· Extensive hands-on experience with Xero, QuickBooks, and MYOB.
· Proficiency in Microsoft Office, including intermediate Microsoft Excel skills.
· Strong knowledge of Australian awards and award interpretation.
· Sound understanding of accounting principles and practices.
· Demonstrated ability to organise priorities, manage competing deadlines, and use time effectively.
· High attention to detail and a consistent commitment to accuracy.
· Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
· A high level of professionalism and discretion when handling confidential information.
· Excellent organisational, written, and verbal communication skills.
