JOB TITLE – TRUST ACCOUNTANT
Bring confidence to every transaction. We’re looking for a detail-oriented Trust Accountant who takes pride in keeping client funds accurate, compliant, and fully accounted for. If you enjoy solving discrepancies, strengthening controls, and turning complex records into clear financial information, you’ll fit right in.
Work Setup: To be confirmed
Role Overview
As our Trust Accountant, you’ll support an Australian client by managing day-to-day trust accounting activities and maintaining accurate, compliant, and timely financial records. You’ll handle trust transactions, reconciliations, reporting, audit documentation, and stakeholder queries while helping strengthen the controls that protect client funds.
Key Responsibilities
· Own the Trust Transactions: Process receipts, payments, transfers, adjustments, and disbursements accurately, ensuring every transaction is properly authorised and documented.
· Keep Every Account Balanced: Complete daily and monthly trust bank reconciliations, investigate discrepancies promptly, and maintain accurate trust ledgers and supporting records.
· Protect Client Funds: Monitor trust balances, identify unusual or outstanding transactions, and escalate exceptions or potential compliance issues appropriately.
· Stay Audit-Ready: Maintain complete supporting documentation and clear audit trails in line with applicable Australian legislation, regulations, and internal policies.
· Support Compliance Reviews: Prepare reports and documentation for trust account audits and compliance reviews, helping ensure records are accurate, accessible, and complete.
· Close with Confidence: Assist with month-end and year-end trust account processes, ensuring balances, reconciliations, and reports are finalised on time.
· Turn Records into Insight: Prepare regular trust account reports, reconciliations, and financial summaries for authorised stakeholders.
· Resolve What Doesn’t Match: Work with internal teams, clients, auditors, and other authorised stakeholders to investigate queries and resolve discrepancies.
· Strengthen the Process: Support internal controls and process improvements that increase accuracy, efficiency, and compliance.
· Support the Wider Finance Team: Assist with bank reconciliations, accounts payable and receivable, financial reporting, documentation, and ad hoc accounting projects as required.
Skills & Experience
· Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Commerce, or a related discipline.
· Previous experience in trust accounting, property accounting, real estate accounting, legal
accounting, or a similar accounting environment.
· Experience supporting an Australian business or client is highly desirable.
· Strong experience in bank and ledger reconciliations, with the ability to identify and investigate discrepancies.
· Understanding of Australian trust accounting principles and compliance requirements is highly desirable.
· Experience with accounting, trust accounting, property management, or legal practice management software; exposure to Xero, MYOB, Console Cloud, LEAP, or Smokeball is an advantage.
· Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and other Microsoft Office applications.
· Exceptional attention to detail, accuracy, organisation, and time management.
· High integrity and discretion when handling client funds and confidential financial information.
