Role Overview

As our AU Senior Tax Accountant, you’ll prepare high-quality working papers and support the onshore team in delivering accurate Australian tax compliance reports. You’ll handle core client compliance requirements, assist with more complex accounting tasks, and contribute to a smooth, reliable service experience for clients.

Key Responsibilities

· Deliver Tax Compliance: Prepare and lodge individual income tax returns, business activity statements, installment activity statements, and fringe benefits tax returns.

· Prepare Client Accounts: Complete bookkeeping, payroll processing, invoice payment uploads, and quarterly superannuation payments using client accounting files.

· Build Reliable Reports: Prepare monthly management reports, including profit and loss statements and balance sheets, from client accounting platforms.

· Support Complex Accounting: Assist with Division 7A loan accounting, tax planning, trust distribution minutes, and financial statements for companies, trusts, and groups with inter-entity transactions.

· Use the Right Tools: Work confidently across Xero, MYOB, and occasionally QuickBooks to keep client files accurate and up to date.

· Review and Guide: Review work prepared by junior accountants, including tax returns, BAS, IAS, payroll, and other compliance tasks as needed.

· Partner with the Team: Support the Accounting Manager, Service Delivery Manager, and onshore client team with tasks connected to client management and service delivery.

· Keep Improving: Use downtime for training, skill development, and knowledge sharing across the team.

Skills & Experience

Accounting & Tax Background

· Degree in Finance, Accounting, or a related field.

· CPA or Chartered Accountant qualification is preferred but not required.

· At least 4–5 years of experience in Australian accounting and taxation.

· Strong understanding of Australian taxation and compliance requirements.

· Experience with individual, partnership, trust, and company compliance.

· SMSF compliance knowledge is preferred but optional.

Tools & Systems

· Confident using Microsoft Office applications, including Outlook, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.

· Familiar with accounting platforms such as Xero, XPM, and MYOB.

· Comfortable learning new systems, workflows, and client tools as needed.

Quality, Communication & Delivery

· Works within hammerjack and client quality guidelines.

· Delivers accurate work independently and with minimal supervision.

· Manages tasks within allotted budget hours and agreed timelines.

· Communicates clearly and professionally, both verbally and in writing.

· Brings a proactive, collaborative mindset and a commitment to continuous improvement.
